FRUK operate a seasonal Forest School After School Club for children aged 4 – 8 yrs old, on Tuesdays during term time. We follow Hackney Schools Calendar term dates.
This will be a seasonal offering from March – October each year, when the days are longer.
The sessions will be led by qualified Level 3 Forest School Practitioners whom are part of the established FRUK team. We will operate a 1:5 ratio of staff to children, at each after school session and there will be a maximum of 20 children at each session. All our staff are DBS checked and hold a current Outdoor Paediatric First Aid qualification and are experienced with children with SEN. At FRUK we continually invest in our staff whom undertake regular Continual Professional Development to further their skill sets.
Forest School Activities
Forest School is a child led pedagogy, our Forest School Leader will devise a termly curriculum of activities but each session we will be guided by the children’s interests and follow their lead on what they wish to experience whilst with us. Our sessions will include the following activities during the course of the term .
- Den Building & knot skills
- Fire Skills – children will learn to build, light and tend a fire, plus cook food over it.
- Tool Use – loppers, bow saws, hack saws (all tool use is strictly 1:1 ratio)
- Foraging – we teach the children which plants are good to eat and which must be avoided as they are poisonous.
- Flora & Fauna – learning about all the plants and animals that we share our Forest School site with and how we can help to look after their habitats.
- Upcycling & Sustainability principles.
Plus at each session there is plenty of opportunities for child led free play in our Forest School site, exploring our wormery, rope swing, tree climbing and mud kitchen areas.
FRUK will pick up from Millfielfds Community School at 3.30pm on Tuesdays and escort the children to our Forest School site in Millfielfds Park for the start of the session at 4.00pm. We will provide a healthy snack & drink on arrival.
The session will officially start at 4.00pm and finish at 6.00pm. Parents & Carers will be required to collect children from our site at 6.00pm prompt.
If you are interested in the FRUK after school club and your child does not attend Millfields School they are still welcome but will require for you to bring them to our site for a 4.00pm arrival. We offer a reduced rate for the sessions without the school pick up.

Childcare vouchers for working parents
Some employers offer vouchers to help employees paying for childcare. You usually give up a set amount of your salary in exchange for childcare vouchers. You don’t pay tax or National Insurance on the first £55 a week.
Visit www.payingforchildcare.org.uk for the “Help with childcare costs for working parents” fact sheet.
We are also registered to receive tax-free childcare vouchers from a range of providers (and are happy to add yours if we aren’t already registered with them).
Please see the library for details on kit list and our policies and procedures, please e-mail email@example.com if you have any questions.
